ROLLA Audio Launches ROLLA, a Jungle and Drum & Bass-Focused ROMpler
ROLLA Audio has introduced ROLLA, a new virtual instrument designed around the bass-driven sound of jungle and drum & bass. The ROMpler is now available as an early-access release for macOS and Windows, combining a built-in pattern engine with a collection of basses, breaks, synth sounds, and effects.
The plugin is built around a straightforward concept: users can hold a single key while ROLLA's integrated Roller generates a rolling bassline synchronized to the host project's tempo. Patterns can be edited step by step, giving producers control over the resulting rhythmic movement rather than relying solely on preset patterns.
Built Around the Roller Engine
The Roller is the central feature of ROLLA, providing tempo-locked bass patterns that follow the note being played. Its pattern editor includes controls for Gate, Swing, Accent, Glide, Octaves, and Arp modes, allowing users to alter the character and movement of each sequence.
Completed patterns can also be exported as MIDI, making it possible to transfer a generated bassline into a DAW for further arrangement and editing.
The instrument includes 246 factory presets covering a range of sounds associated with jungle and drum & bass production. The library includes Reese basses, rolling basses, sub layers, neuro sounds, dub stabs, keys, leads, effects, and chopped breaks.
Two Sample Layers and Built-In Effects
Beyond the Roller, ROLLA provides two sample layers with independent filters, envelopes, key-range controls, and Roller routing. A dedicated CHOP function can also be used to load a break or vocal into Layer B and slice it across the keyboard.
The output section provides additional processing through drive, chorus, delay, reverb, and a limiter. ROLLA also highlights three primary controls—Cutoff, Gate, and Delay—for quickly shaping the instrument's sound and rhythmic feel.
Early Access Availability
ROLLA is currently being offered as an early-access release, with version 0.1.1 listed as the current version. The instrument is priced at $79 and includes a seven-day full trial within the same installer. Licensing works offline and does not require users to create an account.
On macOS, ROLLA requires macOS 15 or later and an Apple Silicon Mac, with AU, VST3, and standalone versions available. Intel Macs and Rosetta are not supported. Windows users need a 64-bit Windows 11 system and can run the VST3 or standalone versions. The sound library requires approximately 2 GB of free storage.
As an early-access product, the current release comes with some limitations. The installers are not yet code-signed, which can trigger security warnings from macOS Gatekeeper or Windows SmartScreen, and FL Studio compatibility has not yet been verified.
With its combination of an editable rolling bass engine, dedicated jungle and drum & bass sounds, MIDI export, and sample-based workflow, ROLLA is aimed at producers looking to build fast-moving bass patterns and break-focused ideas without programming every sequence from scratch.
