OVNI Audio Launches Telescope, a Free Open-Source Audio Analysis Plugin


OVNI Audio has introduced Telescope 0.1.0, a new audio analysis plugin designed to give producers, engineers, and composers a broad set of measurement tools inside their DAW. The plugin is available for macOS and Windows and is released as free, open-source software under the GNU AGPLv3 license.
Rather than functioning as an audio effect, Telescope is built purely for analysis. It monitors the incoming signal without altering it, providing zero samples of latency and bit-exact pass-through. According to OVNI Audio, the analysis itself runs on a separate thread so that audio processing does not have to wait for the measurements.
Thirteen Analysis Tools in One Plugin
Telescope combines thirteen different analysis views around a single measurement engine. These cover areas including loudness, dynamics, frequency content, stereo information, tonal balance, and musical characteristics.
Its loudness analysis follows ITU-R BS.1770, with integrated, short-term, and momentary LUFS measurements, loudness range, and true peak information. Other tools include spectrum analysis, spectrogram and waterfall displays, constant-Q analysis with key estimation, stereo scope and per-band correlation measurements, as well as energy analysis based on pan direction.
The plugin also includes tonal-balance analysis, allowing users to compare their material against a reference file. Files can be analyzed using the same processing system as live input, with OVNI Audio stating that the results are bit-for-bit consistent.
A Verdict System Turns Measurements Into Reports
One of Telescope's more unusual features is its VERDICT analysis lens. Instead of simply displaying graphs and numerical measurements, the system evaluates a per-second history using 21 deterministic rules and produces written findings.
Each finding includes the measured value alongside the rule responsible for generating it. The idea is to turn raw analysis data into a more readable report while keeping the underlying measurements visible.
OVNI Audio describes the system as measurement rather than a conventional mix-assistant approach: the plugin reports what it measures instead of attempting to make subjective decisions about how a mix should sound.
macOS and Windows Support
Telescope is available as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS 11 or later, with a universal build supporting both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. The macOS installer is signed and notarized by Apple.
Windows users receive a 64-bit VST3 version for Windows 10 and later. The Windows package is distributed as an unsigned ZIP, meaning Windows SmartScreen may display a warning during installation. Telescope operates with mono or stereo input and stereo output rather than surround or Ambisonics configurations.
There is no separate standalone application; the macOS installer contains the AU and VST3 versions of the plugin.
Free and Open Source
Telescope's source code is available under AGPLv3, allowing users to inspect and build the software themselves. OVNI Audio's current product information states that the source remains free, while the prebuilt installers are currently available at no cost.
