Inear Display Revives Danaides With Version 2.0 Sound-Mangling Plugin

Inear Display has brought back Danaides, its experimental sequenced sound-mangling effect, with the release of version 2.0 for macOS and Windows.

Originally introduced in 2013, Danaides had been discontinued and eventually became difficult or impossible to run on modern operating systems. Version 2.0 rebuilds the plugin from the ground up, featuring a completely rewritten audio engine and refreshed interface while aiming to preserve the character and workflow of the original.

Danaides is designed for rhythmic sound destruction, combining several processing stages with sequencing and modulation tools. Its effects include a slice-based “Driller,” a metallic delay-style processor, and a sample-rate reduction stage. A pre-filter and modulation system provide additional control over how the incoming audio is transformed.

The plugin also features two morphing LFOs and modulation sequencers for creating evolving, tempo-synchronized patterns, along with randomization options for quickly generating variations.

Version 2.0 is available as a pay-what-you-want download, allowing users to obtain the plugin for free or contribute to its continued development. The new release is offered in VST3 and AU formats, with native Apple Silicon support on macOS.

One important change is that version 2.0 is not backward compatible with version 1 presets, as Inear Display has used the rewrite as a new foundation for future development.
